How to Prime Your NanoFil Gas-Tight Syringe System

When working with gas-tight NanoFil™ syringes, especially in applications involving viral vectors or delicate biological samples, priming your syringe correctly is essential to ensure reliable and accurate sample delivery. Even microscopic air pockets can lead to inconsistent dosing or air injection, which can be detrimental in high-precision workflows. Here's a step-by-step guide to priming your NanoFil™ syringe system effectively.

Unboxing Your NanoFil™ & Installing a Needle

At WPI, we know precision and ease of use matter, especially when you're handling microinjections at the smallest scales. That’s why we’ve created a quick unboxing and setup guide to help you hit the ground running with your new NanoFil™ gas-tight syringe system.

Whether you're new to NanoFil™ or just want a refresher on what's included and how to get started, this article walks you through everything you need to know.

Why NanoFil™ Microsyringes are Ideal for Intravitreal Injections

WPI’s NanoFil™ Gas-Tight syringe offers the ultimate precision for sensitive tissue, particularly for ophthalmic-specific applications. The injection system boasts zero dead volume in the terminal between the interchangeable needle and plunger— creating a truly gas-tight system once primed. NanoFil™ needles are offered in blunt or beveled styles down to 36G, the smallest commercially available gauge on the market.

NanoFil™ is a unique low volume gas tight syringe developed for improved microinjection in mice and other small animals. Here we show you several ways in which the NanoFil can be used for making injections. You can install the syringe on WPI’s UMP3 UltraMicroPump, using SilFlex tubing and a holder, so you can accurately inject by hand. You can install it in a stereotaxic frame. You can also directly inject by hand.

NanoFil™ is a unique low volume syringe developed for improved microinjection in mice and other small animals. It comes in both 10 and 100 microliter volumes and can be paired with a UMP3 UltraMicroPump for making accurate microliter injections. NanoFil stainless steel needles range in size from 33 to 36 gauge.

WPI's NanoFil: Gas Tight Injection System in Animal Research

Are you looking for a microliter or sub-microliter and high precision syringe that holds needles as small as 36 gauge (G), in addition to having the capability to connect to quartz tubing?

WPI’s NanoFil is the answer. We offer NanoFil syringes with NanoFil needles or the option to connect the NanoFil syringe to quartz tubing to use in research studies, mainly involving sub-microliter volume injections into animal tissues.

Application Kits for Use with the NanoFil for Microinjection

Application kits are specially designed for eye research for injecting retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and for intraocular (IO) injections. In addition, these kits may be used for brain injection in mice. They need to be used with a NanoFil syringe and UMPIII to achieve accurate, repetitive and oil-free injection in the submicroliter range.
