Unboxing Your NanoFil™ & Installing a Needle
At WPI, we know precision and ease of use matter, especially when you're handling microinjections at the smallest scales. That’s why we’ve created a quick unboxing and setup guide to help you hit the ground running with your new NanoFil™ gas-tight syringe system.
Whether you're new to NanoFil™ or just want a refresher on what's included and how to get started, this article walks you through everything you need to know.
What’s in the Box?
When you receive your NanoFil™ system, you’ll find these essential components included and pre-assembled:
- NanoFil™ syringe barrel
- 26G needle
- End cap
- Gasket
If you ordered NanoFil™ for ultra-low volume injections (10 µL or below), your package will also include a MicroFil kit. This accessory helps simplify syringe loading for small samples, though it’s entirely optional.
NOTE: For very low sample volumes (e.g., ~3 µL or less), we recommend front-filling your syringe using a syringe pump to ensure optimal precision.
Ready for Customization
While the system arrives assembled with a 26G needle, you may need a smaller outer diameter needle for your particular application. WPI offers 33G, 34G, 35G, and 36G NanoFil™ blunt or beveled needles, which are all compatible with any of our NanoFil™ syringes.
IMPORTANT: Always use NanoFil™ needles with NanoFil™ syringes. This ensures a secure fit and accurate performance.
How to Install a Smaller Gauge Needle
Here’s a step-by-step guide to changing to a different NanoFil™ needle:
- Remove the existing end cap and set both the cap and gasket aside.
- Gently extract the pre-installed 26G needle by pressing on the blue foam support inside the container. Grip the base of the needle and lift it straight upward. To avoid bending the tip, NEVER tilt it.
- Prepare the new needle by sliding the end cap over the base, followed by the gasket (approximately 0.25 inches from the end).
- Insert the new needle assembly into the syringe barrel base.
- Partially screw on the end cap, adjust the needle’s position to align with the 0 µL mark, then tighten the cap fully.
