The UMP3 (UltraMicroPump3) is a versatile microinjection syringe pump paired with microsyringes to deliver microliter-level volumes. The UMP3 is optimal for applications requiring precise, targeted injections of extremely low-volume samples. With its touchscreen controller, our UMP3 can deliver or withdraw as little as 25nL (using 10µL syringe with 60 mm stroke length).
The MICRO2T SMARTouch™ controller for the UMP3 and NANOLITER2020 features Patent Pending technology which includes:
The MICRO2T SMARTouch™ controller has a graphical indication of the rate and volume remaining in your NanoSyringe. It offers end-stop detection that is dependent on the syringe volume. You can control two pumps independently the MICRO2T's dual capability. The controller also has automatic pump detection and a Pause/Resume feature for incremental dosing during infusion, or sample collection upon withdraw. The MICRO2T SMARTouch™ controller is fully compatible with all previous models of the UMP3.
For positioning, the UMP3 microinjection syringe pump may be attached to any of several WPI micropositioners such as the M3301 (manual), DC3001 (motorized) and most stereotaxic manipulators.
Computer Control— A USB port on the rear of the MICRO2T controller can be used for connecting to a computer for scripted protocols.
NOTE: UMP3 accepts glass syringes with barrel diameters from 5.5 to 9 mm. You MUST set end-stop positions on your MICRO2T prior to using your UMP3.

The UltraMicroPump3 is a versatile microinjection syringe pump designed to support the needs of a busy lab. The UMP3 Microinjector is suitable for delivery of media from nanoliters to milliliters. the UMP3 injecotor’s user interface and system design enables delivery of highly accurate and repeatable injections. The choice for thousands of scientists, it is widely cited in research papers.
Syringes have a wide range of applications in a laboratory setting due to their ability to accurately measure and dispense liquids. Common lab uses include transferring precise volumes of liquid samples from one container to another for dilution, mixing, reagent preparation, and sample extraction. You may be using them for analytical techniques, like chromatography (such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or gas chromatography), spectrophotometry, and titration. Syringes are often used for precise dosing and delivery of reagents during chemical reactions and synthesis processes, or in life science research for aspirating media, adding growth factors or nutrients, and transferring cells. In medical and veterinary research, syringes are used for the injection or infusion of drugs, vaccines, or contrast agents into animal models or cell cultures. Researchers can use lab syringes to collect liquid samples, particularly in environmental monitoring, water quality analysis, or biological sample collection. In microfluidic applications and lab-on-a-chip systems, syringes are perfect for precision control of fluid volumes and flow rates.
Choosing the right syringe type depends on the specific application and the requirements of your task. Syringes come in various sizes, materials, and designs, each suited for different purposes. Here are some factors to consider when selecting a syringe type.
Deciding which syringe pump is best for your application involves factors like the flow rate, number of channels, and precision that you require to select and appropriate system. Use a syringe pump when manual syringe handling will negatively impact the delivery of your sample, and to precisely regulate the rate of fluid dispensed from a syringe. These pumps are utilized in diverse areas, including biomedical or chemical applications, general research, healthcare, and in industrial settings. Below is a guide to assist in deciding which syringe pump is most suitable for you:
