SuperCut Tungsten Carbide Mayo Scissors, also called Mayo Dissecting Scissors, are surgical scissors made popular by the Mayo Clinic. They have ring handles and long, straight, thick blades with semi-blunt tips that are straight or curved. The surgical scissors are 17 cm (6.75") long. The length of the blade determines the reach of the scissors when you are dissecting. The blades are sturdy for heavy duty work like cutting connective tissues, fascia, and sutures. Mayo Scissors are often used for dissection, where the blunt tips prevent accidental damage to surrounding tissue and may be used to delicately probe. They may also be used for dressing and bandage removal.
These surgical scissors are SuperCut and have tungsten carbide inserts. Typically, these scissors have one gold handle and one black handle. SuperCut scissors have one blade that is micro serrated to gently grasp the tissue and one edge that is honed razor sharp for a clean cut. SuperCut scissors reduce tissue trauma, offer you a more controlled cutting motion, and give you superior cutting ability. These Mayo Scissors also have tungsten carbide inserts in the blades. Tungsten carbide (TC) is extremely hard and durable, giving you a sharper edge and blades that stay sharp longer. You get superior cutting ability and the scissors have a longer life, saving you time and money. The inserts help prevent blade deformation, resisting the wear and tear of standard scissors. The added sharpness also minimizes tissue trauma, giving you precise, clean cuts that heal faster. Tungsten carbide is also resistant to corrosion.
These surgical scissors are available in surgical grade stainless steel or premium German steel. Both metals are suitable for sterilization by autoclaving or chemically. Always clean your surgical instruments promptly after use. Cleaning helps to minimize staining and preserve the life of your fine surgical instruments.
