The ALM (Andrews-Lucia-McPherson) self-retaining retractor is a surgical instrument designed to hold the eyelids open during ophthalmic surgery, providing surgeons with a clear view of the eye. The two blades have a curved end that fits into the fornices of the eye. The adjustable blades are held in place by a spring-loaded mechanism.
