McPherson-Vannas scissors are a fine pair of surgical scissors commonly used in ophthalmic procedures, specifically for delicate dissection and excision of ocular tissues. They may also be used in ophthalmic surgeries for cataract removal, glaucoma, and corneal transplantation. Other surgical specialties, like neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery, may use McPherson-Vannas spring scissors for delicate dissection and cutting of tissues. These scissors have fine, sharp blades that are either curved or straight. These short, fine blades allow for precise cuts of delicate structures. Withe the spring handle, they are designed for excellent control and visibility during surgery, while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues. The spring handles offer a stable grip for the surgeon, and they can also be used by either left- or right-handed operators. Spring scissors are often preferred by left-handed users over ring scissors designed for right-handed use. The blades (3mm) on the McPherson-Vannas scissors are typically smaller in size compared to other Vannas scissors, which makes them ideal for use in small spaces and for delicate procedures. Dr. Alexander McPherson (ophthalmologist) and Dr. Tord Vannas(instrument designer) invented these scissors which bear their names. Like your other fine surgical instruments, your McPherson-Vannas scissors should be cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized promptly after each use to ensure a long life for your surgical tools. These surgical scissors are available in surgical grade stainless steel.
