Electrical equipment located too near the recording site may induce AC line noise. Electrostatic shielding may by necessary in unusually bad recording locations. Shielding can be a grounded Faraday cage completely surrounding the preparation, probe and preamplifier or in some cases this small wound spring can be slipped over the probe tip to serve as a “driven guard” and electrode shield.
Since model 705 is battery powered, it generates virtually no power line electrical noise. For this reason the instrument can be located very close to the site of recording. If your recording apparatus is located too far for the probe cable to easily reach the recording site, the output coaxial cable can be extended as needed. Use this shield on the tip of the 705PF probe to mitigate electrical interference.
